Grading System

There are nine Kyu grades each grade entails the student to demonstrate that they have a good grasp of the elements required for the particular grade.

The student will be required to learn basic kicking and punching techniques, combinations of these two elements, Kata, set forms of attack and defence for kicking (Sanbon Gumite) and punching (Uke).  As the student progresses set forms are practiced there are two elements Ohyo Gumite (Semi Free Fighting) and Kihon Gumite. Students will also be expected to participate in free fighting, which is carried out under strict control. The student will be required to wear hand mitts while engaged in this activity.

All instruction is carried out under strict supervision the object being to develop the student’s ability under a controlled environment. Each student will be graded when his or her Instructor assesses that they are ready to take a grade. Progression through the grades can only be achieved by the amount of dedication the student shows in the class.
